Top Bar Icons
The blue bar at the top of the map has 6 buttons. Here's what each one does:
Viewing the Map
When you open the app, you'll see a live map of St. Maarten / St. Martin with traffic reports and known hotspots.
- Pan & zoom โ Drag to move the map. Pinch (on phone) or use the +/- buttons to zoom in and out.
- Tap a marker โ Colored markers show active traffic reports. Tap any one to see what's happening at that location.
- Glowing markers โ Pulsing circles with emoji icons are known hotspots (see below). Tap them for details and peak times.
Report a Traffic Condition
See something on the road? Help the community by reporting it in seconds.
- Tap the red Report button (bottom-right corner of the map).
- Choose a report type from the 8 options below.
- Select a severity level โ Low, Medium, or High.
- Tap the map where the issue is happening to set the location.
- Optionally add a description with extra details.
- Hit Submit Report โ your report goes live instantly!
Report Types:
Filter by Type
Use the colored chips at the top of the screen to filter the map and see only the report types you care about.
- Scroll the chip bar horizontally below the top header.
- Tap a chip like ๐ Jam or ๐ฎ Police to show only that type.
- Tap All to reset and see every report again.
- The number on each chip shows how many active reports exist for that type.
Get Directions
Need to get somewhere? Use the built-in directions feature for turn-by-turn routing across the island.
- Tap the directions icon (arrow button) in the top-right corner.
- Tap the map to set your starting point (green marker).
- Tap again to set your destination (red marker).
- The app draws a blue route on the map with distance and estimated time.
- Scroll the directions panel to see turn-by-turn instructions.
- Tap Clear to remove the route when done.
GPS Speed Tracker
See your real-time speed while driving โ works best on your phone with GPS enabled.
- Tap the GPS crosshair button on the left side of the map.
- Allow location access when your phone asks for permission.
- Your current speed appears in a blue badge at the bottom-left.
- Tap the speed badge to switch between km/h and mph.
- Tap the GPS button again to stop tracking.
Change Map Style
Switch between three map views to find the one that works best for you.
- Find the map style button on the left side (shows current style name).
- Tap it to cycle through the three available styles.
Language / Langue / Idioma
SXM Traffic is available in 5 languages to serve the whole island โ Dutch side and French side.
- Find the ๐ globe button in the bottom-left corner of the map.
- Tap it to open the language menu.
- Select your preferred language โ the entire app switches instantly.
- Your choice is saved automatically so it stays set on your next visit.
Known Hotspots
Glowing markers on the map show well-known traffic trouble spots around the island. These are permanent and always visible.

Gas Prices
- Show stations โ Tap the green โฝ Gas Prices button on the left side of the map to toggle gas station markers on/off.
- Check prices โ Tap any gas station marker to see the latest reported fuel prices (Regular, Midgrade, Premium, Diesel).
- Update a price โ Inside the station popup, tap Update Price, choose your currency, select the fuel type, enter the price, and submit.
- Multi-currency โ Prices can be reported in ANG ฦ (SXM Guilder, Sint Maarten side), EUR โฌ (Euro, Saint-Martin French side), or USD $. The currency symbol shows next to each price.
- Community powered โ Prices are reported by users like you. They expire after 48 hours if nobody refreshes them, so update when you fill up!
Flood Zones
Blue dashed circles on the map mark roads and areas that are known to flood regularly during heavy rain โ even when there's no active flood report.
- Flood zones are always visible on the map โ no button needed.
- Tap a blue circle to see the zone name and flood description.
- If you see a blue circle on your route, exercise extra caution during or after rain.
Quick Tips
- Fresh data โ The map refreshes automatically every 30 seconds, so you're always seeing the latest reports.
- Upvote reports โ Tap a report marker and hit the upvote button to confirm it's still accurate. This helps the community!
- Use on your phone โ SXM Traffic works great in your mobile browser. Add it to your home screen for quick access.
- Drive safe โ Please don't report while driving! Pull over or have a passenger submit the report.
